At least 3 of 4 criteria should be present for a confirmed diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis

  1. Discharge: Thin, white, yellow, homogeneous
  2. Clue cells (on microscopy): Epithelial cells with surface covered by adherent bacilli
  3. Vaginal fluid pH > 4.5
  4. Alkali (10% KOH solution): Fishy odor
