Reheated rice syndrome is a form of foodborne illness caused by Bacillus cereus bacteria. This bacterium can survive in rice even after cooking and can produce toxins when the rice is reheated and then left at room temperature. Consumption of such contaminated rice can lead to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. It is therefore advised to properly store and reheat cooked rice to avoid this food poisoning (Mah, J.H., & Hwang, H.J., 2009).
