Etiopathogenesis

Hemorrhage or inflammation of the synovial recesses of the sinus tarsi with or without tears of the associated liagements.

• Inversion injury: Associated with lateral collateral ligament tears

Presentation

• Hindfoot instability
• Pain along lateral aspect of foot

Radiology

MR imaging

• Obliteration of fat in the sinus tarsi space, replaced by fluid or scar tissue
• Disruption of ligaments
• Severe cases:
  • Osteoarthritis of subtalar joint
  • Subchondral cysts
